Breeding & Assessment
The process of breeding a new clematis variety takes 10 years of crossing, selection, assessment and multiplication. Raymond Evison Clematis Varieties are assessed continously for over 7 years before release. We look for distinct flowers, good colour, growth habit, disease resistance, flowers per plant, repeat flowering/flowering season, uniformity/stability between plants....and of course beauty.
Commercial propagation and young plant production of Raymond Evison Clematis is undertaken at the Guernsey Clematis Nursery Ltd. This facility, which uses state-of-the-art techniques and hygiene to ensure plants get the best start in life. After 1 year they are then dispatched for a further 9-12 months growing by licenced partner-growers who finish the plants nearer the retail location.
