Launched in Cape Town, South Africa in October 2025 in association with The Children's Hospital Trust.
Clematis Ithemba is the third variety in our ‘Hope’ series of plants, along side clematis Tumaini and clematis Elpis.
A high impact plant with bright white blooms, a delicate pink bar, with a ruffled edge to the sepals. The complementary red filaments and anthers appear to increase the brightness of the white sepals. Blooms are 8-10cm (3½”- 4”) and cover the plant from late spring to early summer and again in Late summer. Flowers profusely down the stems giving excellent flower coverage over the full height of the plant and longevity of flowering.
A very full, bushy plant, height 90-120cm. Simple pruning technique, cut back to 15cm (6”) in late winter/spring, will produce a captivating display, year, after year. Grow in a container or front to mid border on a framework or grow through other plants.
We are trying to increase the awareness of work done by selected Charites. Clematis Ithemba, named by the Children's Hospital Trust in South Africa, a nonprofit organisation that raises funds to support the advancement of child healthcare across the Western Cape and the Continent. The Children's Hospital Trust is at the forefront of providing access to world-class pediatric care to children from all over South Africa, regardless of their financial background. Working closely with the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, the University of Cape Town Department of Pediatrics and Child Health, and the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital, the Trust has invested over R1 billion towards improving public health infrastructure, training specialist pediatric health workers, and supporting the establishment of child public health projects. 100% of all donations received go directly to the impactful projects and programs that benefit sick and injured children.
